Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding how Zonifyr works — and how it respects the boundaries between schools, families, and institutions.

The Platform

What is Zonifyr?

Zonifyr is the operating platform for modern school phone-policy programs. It connects policy management, parent choice, accountability, communication, analytics, positive community incentives, and — where appropriate — legitimate device management into one coherent system. It is not an app that "locks student phones." It is the platform schools use to design and run fair, effective, and privacy-respecting phone-free programs.

What are the four products?

Zonifyr has four distinct products, each serving a different audience with different authority: Zonifyr Schools (for schools and districts), Zonifyr Family (for parents and guardians managing personal devices), Zonifyr Managed (for school-owned or institutionally managed devices), and SchoolSafeZone (the community recognition and rewards layer).

What does "trust-first compliance" mean?

It means that where a school allows it, families may choose a parent-managed digital option rather than a physical pouch. The school judges compliance through normal school-observed behavior — not by monitoring phones. If a student repeatedly violates the school policy, the school has a fair escalation path: moving that student from a digital option to a physical method. Students can earn back digital eligibility under school-defined rules.

Zonifyr Schools

What does Zonifyr Schools do?

Zonifyr Schools helps schools and districts design phone-free policies, communicate them to families, collect signed acknowledgements and compliance-method choices, manage trust-based escalation between digital and physical options, record school-observed incidents, communicate with parents, and measure program outcomes.

Does Zonifyr Schools monitor student phones?

No. Zonifyr Schools does not monitor personally owned phones. It does not receive Family Controls data, Screen Time data, app-usage data, or device-restriction telemetry from personal devices. Schools observe student behavior the same way they always have — by being present in the school environment.

Zonifyr Family

What does Zonifyr Family do?

Zonifyr Family is a parent-controlled product for personally owned student devices. It is being developed using platform-supported parental-control frameworks, with availability and functionality subject to platform requirements and approvals. Parents and guardians independently choose schedules, apps, categories, and supported restrictions on their own terms.

Can the school see what restrictions I've set on my child's phone?

No. Schools do not remotely activate controls, see app selections, verify whether a phone is currently restricted, or receive any Zonifyr Family data. Your device settings are yours. The school sees nothing about them.

Do I have to use Zonifyr Family?

That depends on your school's program. Some schools offer a parent-managed digital option as an alternative to a physical pouch. If your school offers this, using Zonifyr Family is one way to participate in that option. Your school's program administrator can tell you what choices are available.

Zonifyr Managed

What is Zonifyr Managed?

Zonifyr Managed is a separate enterprise product for school-owned or legitimately institutionally managed devices. It is built within Apple's approved MDM framework — Zonifyr has received Apple MDM vendor/service-provider status and can sign Certificate Signing Requests and generate MDM Push Certificates. Android Enterprise support is in development. Zonifyr Managed applies only to devices schools are authorized to manage and is not used as a workaround for ordinary personally owned student phones.

SchoolSafeZone

What is SchoolSafeZone?

SchoolSafeZone is the positive-recognition and community layer of the Zonifyr platform. It supports responsibility, leadership, improvement, participation, service, and other transparent school-defined positive milestones through student recognition and local-business partnerships.

Do businesses see student data through SchoolSafeZone?

No. Businesses may provide rewards or offers through SchoolSafeZone, but they should receive only the minimum information required to validate a reward — not student discipline records, personal-device data, sensitive education records, or detailed compliance histories.

Privacy

What data does Zonifyr collect?

Zonifyr Schools collects only what is necessary to operate a school phone-policy program: enrollment data, signed acknowledgements, compliance-method choices, and school-recorded observations. It does not collect personal-device data. Zonifyr Family stores parent-configured schedules and settings. It does not transmit device restriction data to schools.

How is Zonifyr designed to address FERPA, COPPA, and student privacy requirements?

Zonifyr is being designed around FERPA, COPPA, applicable California student-privacy requirements, data minimization, school-controlled access, role-based authorization, and strict separation of family-device information from school records. Before production school deployment, applicable contracts, privacy controls, retention practices, and security requirements will undergo formal review. School deployments are expected to be governed by appropriate data-processing and student-data agreements.

Does Zonifyr sell student data?

Zonifyr does not intend to sell student data or use school student data for advertising. The platform is being designed so school records, Family device information, and SchoolSafeZone merchant interactions remain separated by purpose and authority.
